Radiological Protection Institute Ireland

Virtual Department

“The Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland (RPII) is the national organisation charged with regulatory, monitoring and advisory responsibilities in matters pertaining to ionising radiation. This includes monitoring exposure and assessing the hazard from radon gas in different areas of the country.

VoxPro have been operating the national assistance line on behalf of the RPII since 2005.  Through this line the RPII provide advice on the health effects of Radon and on how to measure Radon in homes and workplaces.

VoxPro provide first line support to members of the public who may call for a number of reasons, for example to request information brochures or to place an order for Radon detectors.  The agents at VoxPro are well-versed in the procedures surrounding the use of Radon detectors, and have a detailed knowledge-base from which they can provide information on radon itself (its characteristics, dangers etc).  Every call managed by the call centre is logged and forwarded to our main office via daily email reports.

As the majority of calls to this line are from the general public, it is often hard to predict call volumes.  The quantity of calls can rapidly increase, in particular during periods of media attention, such as during last year’s investigations into high Radon levels in Mallow, County Cork.  VoxPro have always shown an ability to ramp up their service and handle increased call volumes, within a short time frame.”
